{"id":1498,"date":"2020-11-18T13:06:53","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T12:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/youtumor.org\/im-afraid-i-may-have-or-get-cancer\/the-fear-is-justified\/"},"modified":"2021-01-14T11:55:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T10:55:37","slug":"the-fear-is-justified","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/youtumor.org\/en\/im-afraid-i-may-have-or-get-cancer\/the-fear-is-justified\/","title":{"rendered":"THE FEAR IS JUSTIFIED"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The justifiable fear of having or developing a tumor may stem from one of the three following conditions:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>a worrying symptom,<\/li>\n<li>an abnormal test result, or<\/li>\n<li>simply the fact of having a family history of cancer.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>These three conditions are not listed in order of importance.<\/strong> <\/span>All three may be justifiable causes of worry and may require action to be taken. On the other hand, they may simply be misinterpreted or magnified by the person involved, when really there is no danger at all and the person only needs to be reassured. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>So, what&#8217;s the difference between these two situations?<\/strong><\/span> What prompts the doctor either to act or to reassure? When should we worry? <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The answers to these questions depend on the type and intensity of the \u201cdanger signal\u201d<\/strong><\/span> in question. Indeed, each of the above conditions (symptoms, test results, family history) may display a certain \u201cbackground noise\u201d, that is to say, small variations from the normal state that do not mean anything serious or dangerous.
